Yoga Influences: I primarily teach a strong, vinyasa style of yoga, where attention to the breath, and arriving in a flow state is a focus. I bring principles of Yin into my practice where possible, to counterbalance the tapas, or heat, of a strong vinyasa practice, and as another way to link mind and body.
Inspirational teachers: Simon Low (TriYoga UK, Yoga Academy UK), Jules Febre (Jivamukti), Carling Harps (Commune Yoga & Awakening Yoga)
Background: I started practicing yoga as a teenager in the early nineties, starting at the Yoga Academy in an Ashtanga practice. After fifteen years of practice, including with some influential teachers in the UK, I undertook my first yoga teaching training through renowned US based Jivamukti, inspired by my good friend Eridani Baker. I loved Jivamukti, and my teacher training unlocked a deeper connection into my practice. I have a diagnosis of ADHD, and yoga has been the consistent practice in my life that's been able to calm my mind and spirit.
Why I practice: As I've moved through my own journey of IVF, I have used yoga as a powerful tool to maintain a positive mindset. I've taken a keen interest in the role of yoga before, during and after pregnancy, offering prenatal yoga that centres on mum building strength and resilience for her baby.
Why I teach: Prenatal yoga is a fantastic way to provide restfulness, as well as build stabilising strength and a greater connection into your body as it changes through the seasons of pregnancy. This mind-body connection can be useful moving through the later stages of pregnancy and into labour. My prenatal teaching offers a variety of strength and restoration.
