Yin Yoga and Anatomy COURSE DETAILS
This intensive level II 50-hour training is a certified stand-alone teacher training course and is also the second of four modules that make up Yin Therapy’s 200hour Yoga Alliance recognised Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training.
In this 2nd module, we deepen our understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and practicing Yin Yoga, with more focus on hands experiential learning – working together in pairs or small groups to gain a solid foundation to teach this profound practice safely.
Main Topics of Study
Yin Yoga Asanas
In this continuance of our yin yoga teacher training programme, we concentrate mainly on the 9 points of awareness of functional yoga. The focus is on sensing, feeling and experiencing the Yin Yoga practice and the unique anatomy of our individual bone structure for ourselves.
As well as analysing compression, we’ll study the tension of the muscular and fascial tissues and the effect of these on the asana practice. This will allow us to offer our students logical assists.
7-Point Analysing Principle for Assists - Theory
In this section, we’ll deepen our knowledge and understanding of the 7-point analysis principle.
7-Point Analysing Principle – Tests and Analysis of Assists/Adjustments
In this element of the training programme, we’ll focus on applying the 7-point analysis principle for assists and – working with the student – studying ways of analysing yoga poses on the basis of compression and tension, orientation of the joints, and proportions. You will be analysing yourselves as well as each other, working in pairs or small groups conducting passive assists as well as gaining experience teaching this unique form of yoga. Through this very much hands on, practical approach your knowledge and understanding will be increased tenfold. As a sneak preview for the Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training level III programme, where the focus is on the upper body and extremities, we will conduct a series of tests to analyse the shoulder stand in detail.
We will learn a series of passive, hand-on assists. As teachers, we may encounter students whose range of movement doesn’t allow them to practise certain asanas – such as Virasana or Supta Virasana. This can be for a variety of reasons including stiffness, lack of suppleness, age or injury. We analyse the function of the pose before selecting from our “yin yoga tool box” the passive assist that is appropriate for each muscle group on which we wish to focus.
Yin Therapy - The Therapeutic Benefits of Yin Yoga
In YYTT II, we establish a basic understanding of how – using Yin Therapy's approach – we can employ the therapeutic elements of Yin Yoga to support our students’ individual and specific physical and emotional issues. Topics that we will cover include the body and mind connection, thought, emotion and reaction, stress and back pain in the West.
Students must have completed our Yin Therapy’s Level I Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training to be able to participate in this Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training II.

“I want to take a moment to thank you both again for the fabulous knowledge you have shared with me via the Yin Yoga courses. My old prolapsed disc began to cause me pain again but this time instead of taking 18 months to be pain free, with the new knowledge I now have of how the body works, how Yin/Yang yoga effects the body, along with letting go of ego, I am now 90% pain free in only two weeks! 80% of that happened within two days! This is all thanks to you both! Your teachings have changed my life, along with how I practice and how I teach yoga so as a result you have changed my student's lives also. I am so so so grateful and so so SO can't wait for level 3. Love to you both, you are truly special people. Namaste x” (YYTT II Auckland 2016) - Justine J. yoga teacher, Christchurch
“Thank you so much for an amazing week on level 2!! Thoroughly enjoyed the course & am excited to get back to my class & experiment. Absolutely loved the challenges you gave us and the learning that came out of experiencing it that way - perfect, profound, long lasting! Nididiyasa maybe :) I have never appreciated that aspect of learning before, neither in a course or in life & that it can be such a catalyst for change. I am very much enjoying these AHA moments in the & the opportunities for development these challenges provide. It was a fantastic group & I also feel extremely well facilitated by you both. Karin I love the way you lead class. Your calmness, gentleness & groundedness are something I am trying to emulate in my own classes. You so easily nurture the Yin energy. Thank you. I was particularly impressed with how you held the space Markus, when Karin was not there. Some of those discussions were quite intense and you stayed centred & un-reactive to the stuff that was being exposed. A great experience to witness first hand & feel that you really were coming from a place of non-judgement & acceptance. I hope that I can take this learning into my own life! You have an amazing course. Your dedication & standard of excellence very much noted & appreciated. I look forward to level 3 next year.” (YYTT II Auckland 2016) - Emma J. reflexologist & yoga teacher, Methven, New Zealand
“Thank you for everything you have taught me. I often still hear your words of wisdom and inspiration (and the Anatomy Song). I am so grateful to have been drawn to your amazing training and am so grateful for the life changing experience I had.” (YYTT II Auckland 2016) - Andi T. yoga teacher, Matamata
