Background: I am originally from Canada. I attended the University of Victoria for a year and a half but I was more fond of the rowing program than my studies, so I took some time off to be a ski bumb. I am a level 3 internationally qualified ski instructor and I've taught skiing in Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
My husband is a kiwi so we moved to NZ in 2002. I completed my Occupational Therapy Bachelor of Health Science at AUT and practiced at Auckland and Tauranga Hospital for a couple of years. For the last eight years I've been lucky enough to be a stay at home Mum for our three boys.
Why I practice: Yoga helps to bring balance into my life, it nurtures my mind body and spirit. I have a lot of tightness in my body, shoulders, hamstrings and hips, and when I practice, yoga gives me an ease and lightness in my body. Yoga helps me to clear and calm my mind, and find gratitude and perspective in this busy life. Yoga has also opened up a spiritual journey for me that truly resonates with my beliefs and values. Yoga has also helped me through some of the most difficult times of my life, by giving me permission to simply be with myself and to find space to heal.
Why I teach: I've wanted to teach yoga for a very long time. This life has many challenges and I see a lot joy but I also see and have felt a lot of struggle. Often we are our own worst enemies, yoga has given me so many tools to cope, to be better to myself and to the people I love. My hope is to share yoga and the many ways it shines a light on mind, body and spirit. Helping us to be in the moment, to enjoy fully the joys of life and supporting us through the struggles.
"Yoga isn't about executing the poses perfectly or having the best balance. Yoga is connecting with yourself. Yoga is like learning to breathe again. Or that moment when you jump out of bed in the morning rush outside to do sun salutations and you're blinded by how utterly brilliant the world can be. Yoga is taking a moment from your stressful up-beat life and remembering you have a soul that needs tending to." - Donna Farhi
"The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships." - T.K.V. Desikachar
"Anybody can breath. Therefore anybody can practice yoga." - T.K.V. Desikachar
