Yoga Name:  Taradevi (which means ‘Goddess of the Stars’)

Training Certificates and Qualifications:  500hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Certification; MBSR Mindfulness and Meditation, Yoga Therapy, Natal Yoga, Yoga Nidra and PLAY Kids yoga certifications; Bachelor of Arts (History of Art); Post-graduate - Arts Management and Visual Design Communication.

Yoga Influences:  Hatha Yoga; Yin yoga; Mindfulness Meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Zen Buddhist philosophy.

Inspirational Teachers:  Atma Okan, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Tiffany Cruikshank (Yoga Medicine) and Dr Libby Weaver.

Background:  My background is in the Visual Arts and I was fortunate to spend many years working for art galleries and cultural organisations in London. This led me to develop my skills in visual design communication leading to a second career in website design and print publication.

In 2006 I emigrated to New Zealand from the UK and began my third career as a Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation Teacher.

Why I practice:  I practice to create the opportunity to just ‘be’ in the present moment, to experience that place of quiet inner stillness. It is my happy place!

Why I teach:  I am inspired to teach because for me, yoga and mindfulness meditation are about bringing life into balance: balancing the mind, balancing the body and balancing the emotions. When we are able to find balance on the mat or as we sit in meditation, then the better equipped we are to deal with all that life throws our way. I believe that the combination of mindful movement, breathing and meditation is a powerful tool for healing and relieving us of many of the injuries, illnesses and mental/emotional conditions associated with our stressful modern way of living. I hope to empower people to find more connection, greater awareness and equanimity.
